Entering Apprentice
By Bro. Gary Bond
At the door to light,
Full of worry, full of fright,
Altered in dress, altered in mind,
Senses wild, walking blind,
Properly proposed,
And approved by those,
Who know the secrecy?
In tonight’s big mystery
Guarded is the way,
Protected through the day,
Unprompted must I be,
My will being free,
Entrance granted, to what who knows,
Faith in the family, argh here goes,
Prepared I was for this alone
My fate tonight is not my own.
My path, my way, I am shown
Guided by what? It’s unknown,
Trust I will trust I must,
In god alone my life’s entrust,
Questioned I is, questioned I am,
I feel no longer my plight as a free man,
Through the darkness the unknown voice,
I assure you now I am here by choice,
A prayer for me is well in need,
Before the fear my blindness feed,
In god I search with lack of light
Any danger toward me I know you’ll smite,
My journey begins 3 points of 4
Pass each one, of good report,
Entrance granted 1,2,3,
More questions asked by thrice it be,
A little step needed,
My attention heeded,
A bit bigger this time,
A second step fine,
Third and final,
Without denial,
Stepping wide,
A full length stride,
The principles then told,
An obligation to behold,
A promise, an oath I must make
A secret to be kept, make no mistake
Kneel I do, my hand is ready,
My heart for this hour, never steady,
Repeat I do not a word I miss,
Believe I do so seal with a kiss,
Request is made of what I wish,
Thought I did of what I miss,
I ask in honesty for the light,
And granted it was, full and bright,
Sight restored my night goes on,
Attention brought to what has gone,
Explain he might, and explain he does,
3 great things are told that make me buzz,
Discovery continues in the words he speaks,
3 points of 4, my interest peaks,
Story maintained, many times been told,
A little fear to what does unfold,
Escape I wanted, for now I’m shaking,
2 perils for me were in the making,
Not the worse by far, by no mean feat,
Number 3 is the one I’m glad not to meet,
Instructed I am, knowledge I gain,
The order of light within my vein,
Intent to learn, eager to hear,
No longer a single ounce of fear,
3 of 4 once more I go,
Travel around and make a show,
Sighted in step, clearer in mind,
Great men before me, I do find,
Tested by each, questioned by all,
Guided still, in case I fall,
1,2, and 3 each point a trial,
Unless done right, my knowledge denial,
A gift of merit presented in skin,
Making me a part, and sort of kin,
Treat it well and in this place,
Will see that I do not disgrace,
A test, and an exam to start
A bit to pass before I part,
A look in life at my virtue,
Before acceptance for me is true,
Confusion sets in, puzzled I am,
Gladly will, if I can,
Taken from me prior to the door,
Is what you ask of me on this floor,
A test of honour, of which I show,
To help if can, any poor fellow,
Not to make me look a fool,
On we go to the working tool,
Application to my trade explained,
Symbolisms in everyday described in plain,
Charter shown, laws given,
A final task to be driven,
Out of the light, back through the door,
My earlier beginnings still on the floor,
Comforts restored as I arrived,
My granted gift properly applied,
All remains is my charge to be heard,
Now on track to reaching my third,
Truth, Honour, and Virtue in my heart,
My new brethren and I now do part.
