Help Wanted Please- Chapter Speaker/ Lecturer

Postby LightSquare » Thu Apr 25, 2019 3:30 pm

Dear Brothers and Companions,
I’m a junior companion in a SW Essex chapter. We are struggling to maintain attendance of some of our members at our convocations, I know this is an all too common problem sadly.

In an effort to invigorate people’s interest I am searching for a visiting lecturer or guest speaker. I would really like to source a knowledgable and established speaker, who would be willing to come along and hopefully kick off what could be a new initiative to drive interest up. So does any one know please of likely guests speakers?

Whilst it’s a RA meeting, any talk from the subject of masonry or indeed on any particular interesting subject could be suitable? We are in Upminster, hoping to conduct this on the 26th June and of course will cover reasonable expensess, meal and or donations to charity etc.

Thank you for taking the time to read, and apologies if I’m posting in the wrong section here?

Thanks,
S and F

I have just asked Essex Province where has the list of Orators Lecturers gone.

It was on the old Web site.

Will report back when and if I get an answer.

Lecture and Orators should be approved by Province.
If you dont have approval I presume if you call off and have a lecture / discussion that would be OK.

I have left a disapointment that its taken half a day to retrieve this info but here is some more

Solomon the teacher: Fostering curiosity – developing understanding

The launch of Solomon, an online learning resource, is making daily advancement a reality in the Craft and Royal Arch

Sir David Wootton, Assistant Grand Master and Chairman of the Improvement Delivery Group, wrote in the last issue of FMT that the requirement to learn ritual by rote and then present it without any attempt at providing the most basic of context and understanding fails the candidate, because it overlooks the important messages that lie within.

Member surveys have highlighted learning as a major unmet need and a potential reason why members leave. Solomon has been created as an accessible online resource to stimulate interest and meet current and future needs.

Thank you Troulligan and Bill for your help with this. Whilst I’m certainly hoping to confirm a speaker for our next meeting soon, the papers you have listed are very interesting. It will be great to have an experienced speaker for the forthcoming meeting, but also for myself and perhaps others to augment a professional programme going forward into the future, by delivering some of these prepared papers will be fantastic.
Thank you again for your guidance with this.
