Quick question here but does anyone know if it would be possible at some stage to replace the "logo" at the base of the jewel with the correct symbol?
I mean as in have it ground off and a new one enameled.

That is something I have thought about. I know there was a former Royal Marine who adapted (with the consent of the charity) Help for Heroes pin badges by the addition of a very small S & C compass but I have no idea if he or anybody else could provide such a service.

The crest is only a small section of the coat of arms - usually the bit above the helmet and below the slogan - the nearest equivalent part on the UGLE coat of arms is the winged angels above the ark

Not too sure how easy it would be to replicate that.....

The square and compass are represented on the Field of the coat of arms (on the jewel and on the coat of arms itself)

The Tercentenary Jewel incorporates the current representation of the square and compass as an emblem at the bottom

Was stating the Tercentenary Jewell is based on the "old" coat of arms, but also has the new logo at the bottom.

So can you sow me the "old" coat of arms?

This may help you Peter - here is a link to the Jewel - http://letchworthshop.co.uk/masonic-cra ... -2017.html - which shows the UGLE coat of arms which has been referred to in this thread as the "old" coat of arms.

The controversial element is the coloured symbol at the bottom of the jewel which many feel should be the traditional square and compass rather than the symbol which is shown and can be seen more clearly as the central portion of this link - http://letchworthshop.co.uk/masonic-cuf ... l-pin.html - which many do not accept or recognise to be a square and compass.

Even if you were to get it changed, where would you wear it given it would no longer be 'of an approved design'?

Indeed - which is why I am currently spending so much time wondering why I remain a subscribing member when there is so much being "approved" with which I currently disagree. Maybe current trends will be reversed but I doubt it. I know many disaffected folk have long term associations etc with Freemasonry and enjoy active membership. For a variety of reasons I don't fall into either of those categories and wonder whether I would be better leaving so avoiding many of my current frustrations and spending my time studying and thinking about the Craft - unattached or as I prefer to think of it a virtual Freemason.

I too have considered this deeply David. I've decided to stay for the simple reason that remaining does provide better access to research material and the opportunities of speaking at Lodges and RA Chapters, of which I am doing more and more nowadays. In doing so, I'm finding similar murmerings over this and that pronouncement from on high and when I do, I try not to miss the chance of including such matters in the discussions. Before too long, the pen will come into play from several quarters and then I think GL may have to sit up and listen. I feel that removing ourselves from the Craft would deny us the ability of addressing these issues and of keeping up to date with the tide of events.
