Visit to Oare at the end of July 2010

Postby robert w crowe » Fri Jul 02, 2010 12:27 am

Brethren, my daughter has asked me to visit at the end of July in a place called Oare close to Faversham . I was wondering if any Lodges are active in the area during this period. Bro Robert W Crowe RWM St John 174 (55)

Hi Robert.

Nothing in Oare itself, it's a pretty small village. We have 3 Lodges nearby in Faversham, but all take a break over the summer months.

Nor can I find any other Lodge in neighbouring towns which has a July meeting ... but there are nearly 200 Lodges in E Kent, so I haven't searched exhaustively. I suggest giving the Provincial Office for East Kent a call, they ought to have a calendar to hand which will tell at a glance if there's anything happening on the relevant dates. Or actually, I reckon there's a fair chance your own GSec in GLoS might have been sent copies of the calendars for English Provinces.

There are such things as summer Lodges in English freemasonry (and indeed I'm a member of one, although nowhere near where you're going), but there aren't very many. So good luck, and it's worth checking further, but I reckon the chances are that you'll draw a blank.

Many thanks Brother, I am just back having had a great time sailing. I have committed myself to some work on the old tug being restored in Ramsgate if needed. I was chatting to a chap on the tug and found out that they were looking for people that might be able to help them out with old skills to replace parts and plates that are worn out. I myself learnt how to rivit and cork plates whilst serving my time as a plater years ago out in South Africa before I went into music. The work that needs to be done is easy, countersink and snap heads most of it 7/8" dia. But no doubt they will be ripped off for the work that has to be done.! (55)
