No Tassels On Pro GM Apron

Postby aprado » Thu Apr 27, 2017 8:04 pm

Bretheren,

I have noticed that the Grand master, Pro Grand Master and, his deputy's, have no tassels on their aprons. I thought as these symbolised the 7 virtues of the order that they would be quite important?

I have desired to do good
But i have not desired to make noise
Because i have felt that noise did no good
And that good made no noise.

I have been unable to find any precedent for tassels other than upon Jewish prayer shawls and of course the post-mortem garment of Bérenger Saunière

It is an interesting question

I had a look at the plates book and that does not as far as I can see give an answer
Have a look yourself

Yes, we've been around this question a year or so ago. If you look at rule 265, you will see that what they are wearing contravenes that rule - best to read the rule from the end and look at what is required for Grand Officers, present and past. You will also see that photos of previous Grand Masters and of active Grand Officers do have the tassels. It was either a previous Grand Secretary of the Pro GM who answered my question, face to face, by saying that those aprons belong to GL and they have to sign them out for official events. To signify they belong to GL, they have no tassels - even though that contravenes the rule! I can see the point when you think of the great number of aprons sculling around after a GL Quarterly Communication. They could change the rule of course, but then it wouldn't give us fun trying to find out why it is so!
