Learning ritual with spouse

Postby Stevecoath » Wed Apr 19, 2017 2:10 pm

Brethren,
After watching the Sky 1 program I feel compelled to ask;
How many of you enlist the help of your significant other to help learning ritual?

I always thought it was verboten but of course the fact that our ritual books are openly on sale for anyone to buy now makes me question whether I have been hindering myself.

Learning ritual with spouse

Postby P471 » Wed Apr 19, 2017 4:11 pm

I thought the same, but thinking about it, he was learning the charge and as you quite rightly point out the ritual books are on sale to the public and there are no hidden words in the charge so I don't see a problem. However, the same can't be said for other pieces such as obligations and entrusting with the 'secrets' etc. I imagine these would be quite difficult to rehearse with someone who has not been through the degree.

FWIW, we present the initiate with a personalised copy of the Charge and encourage him to let his partner read it.

I've never rehearsed ritual with my wife. But then, I'm not married; so that would kind of hold me back on that score :D

i usually get mistakes corrected with a slap by my wife, so nowdays i practice in my car at work, far far away from her!!
I have desired to do good
But i have not desired to make noise
Because i have felt that noise did no good
And that good made no noise.

In the early stages I did, up until I became JW.
Then I developed my own way using a full-length mirror as the texts became longer and longer ..... and longer!

Hmm. I've heard this comment often. My kitchen is tiled too.

Walk along Eastbourne seafront, between 7 & 8 pm, on nights that I don't have a meeting, and you will usually pass me muttering ritual to myself.

I remember my late father telling me of the time he was trying to learn a particular piece (can't remember what it was now) whilst walking along Snettisham front past the caravan site. He was struggling to remember a couple of words when he received a prompt from one of the caravans.
