Hello from Scotland

Postby Overfinch » Wed Aug 31, 2016 10:03 pm

Hi all, just wanted to introduce myself. I have lurked this forum a bit, this is my first post. I have recently reached out to a local lodge and met with the lodge secretary and hopefully will be beginning my journey into freemasonry. The lodge secretary advised me not to do too much research or read up on things online as it is not necessarily accurate and instead learn through interaction until my (hopeful) initiation. I have decided to respect that advice so my activity here will largely relate to interacting with others and learning more about the members of this forum and general discussion rather than to try to learn more about freemasonry. I look forward to being a part of this forum and am very excited to begin my journey. You will likely see me around in general discussion forums in the future.

Thank you both! I live in Edinburgh. I am still a 22 year old student so my username is reflective of my dreams rather than reality. Maybe one day... (42)

Welcome Finch
I'm often at St David 36 so don't be shy say hello
For others here St Davids ( The University Lodge) no 36
has a new old tradition of inviting all potential newbies along to harmonies after lodge meetings
So see you there Saturday 17th?
By coincidence I have just been in the company of "Big Rod in Black" who is junior deacon there as he was helping me in my garden this morning!
and last night I was at meeting ( SRIS) in Dundee withy a PM of 36 too
You are right to be cautious here as we all should be !
Where are you from ? any family in craft coming up to see you join?

best wishes eckywan

Thanks for the message. The last family member of mine in the craft was my great grandfather, so unfortunately I will not have any family to see my join. Also I've only seen this after already replying to your PM - unfortunately I won't make the 17th as I found out too late and could not change my travel plans but will definitely come to the next one. I look forward to meeting you (44)

Thought of posting a quick update. I have taken my first step and have been initiated into the craft on Saturday. It was an amazing experience and even had Dalkeith and Eckywan come up to see me take my first step. Hoping to be more active on this site now.

Well done Overfinch ( apart from the sock)
It was a nicely worked degree with the newbie students playing an active part.
Sorry I had to miss the harmony and your reply as I had Grandad duties
Dalkeith had come up from England and had family stuff to do too
so neither of us got he chance to speak with you .
I know you've got many questions so ask away
best way to do that of course is to visit see how other lodges do their degrees and "network" with the brethren
Fraternal greetings
ecky
