Greetings from Germany

Postby cplkaos » Thu Apr 28, 2016 1:24 pm

Greetings all.

I hope this day finds you in good health.

The name is Tim and I live in North West Germany in an old British Army Garrison town which was vacated in 2009. I myself used to be in the forces but chose to be made redundant in 2013. I decided to settle in Germany as the wife and kids are native.

My mother is Lodge St Ninians 66 GLOS in Brechin, Angus and I took my first steps as an EA in 1993 with my father looking on. It was him who suggested I find my way here.

Anyways.....fast forward 20 years in the forces and with the knowledge that my life will have no long enforced time away I decided to enlighten myself once again with the craft. During the last 20 years I can count on one hand the times I entered a lodge. The most memorable was that of my father being installed as Master in our own lodge but unfortunately I missed out on the tricentennial in 2014.

I find myself now a member of Lodge Doric 886 (The Grand Lodge of British Freemasons in Germany). Although we have a lack of EA'S coming through and the lack of UK nationals (Army mainly) we manage to plod along.

My main reason for joining is to "remember" things that need refreshing and also I would like to give back something to 886 in the form of an instructional/educational evening and this, through my old man, is why I am here. To inform my self so I can inform others.

Thank you for reading.

PS, if you are reading this Dad, can you lend a Lewis 10 pounds please?

A very warm welcome Corporal Kaos - great handle, guessing you are ex RS going by the sign off?

There is a lot of information here - most of it accurate!

Good to have you onboard and look forward to your contributions

Welcome to Lodgeroom UK Tim,

I too used to be in the army in Germany and lived fairly close to you for 9 years after leaving the army. I lived in Halle (Westfalen) between Osnabruck and Bielefeld and served in the local fire service there for five years until I had a mid life crisis and moved back to the UK 20 years ago. I go over to Germany fairly regularly and somehow my appointments there always seem to miss lodge meetings in OS, BI or in GT but I hope to visit one of your lodges in the future.
