Hello Charles

It would be best if you started a new topic in the intro section telling us a little about yourself and where you live - we would then be able to advise you on your best point of contact.

Welcome Charles
and to get back to your query
you hit the nail on the head yourself ask your brother if you have one or other family members ( uncles rather than aunts!)
schoolpals, workmates, neighbours the list goes on and on, ypour own local contacts and face to face blethers will get you started
and even help you chose where to go/ which lodge
and everyone here will be there for you too

Have a good day

Hi there,my name is Charles.Charles is my western name. I'm from Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia and I''m very interested in joining freemasonry. I'll be coming to the UK soon To study and I'm just wondering if I'm 18,and I don't have a criminal record, can I be part of the fraternity? By the way,I'm a christian and I've heard many rumors that christians can't be freemasons..I know that if im intending in becoming a freemason I should ask first..ive asked my family members and friends but unfortunately no one is a part of this great fraternity....so ,I made a decision to get to know some freemasons online before I come to the UK..I wanna be close with them (who doesn't wanna be close with great men?)im not really sure when I'll be coming but I can assure its in the near future...im just saving enough money and getting all my qualifications in order...
I hope I can speak to a brother about this.i just wanna get to know more knowledge about freemasonry before I come there...well I feel like this is a good opportunity for me to learn to become a better men,as I know not everyone is perfect...I want some clarification on all my doubts first before I make a decision ...but I'm quite impressed and amazed by the way the freemason brothers show compassion and love amongst one another..there no fight or racism amongst the brothers and I would love to join a group of men who share good moral values and good mindset as well..i am willing to learn more to change myself to become better and contribute more to society..the brothers also show great adherence to religion and devotion to God......I also am willing to make more friends as im quite a loner to be honest..but I'm willing to change my attitude...cause I know christ told us to love everyone on earth... thanks tor taking the time to read my message here, i hope to hear more from a brother soon, and I'm sorry if my English is imperfect and If I sound ridiculous here

Yours faithfully,
Charles....

In normal circumstances, you have to be 21 to join. Under the universities scheme, however, you may be able to join at 18.
As for Christians not being able to become Freemasons, that's complete and utter rubbish in regular Freemasonry. Our assemblies are open on the Bible, I am a Christian myself as are many Brethren. There is nothing in what we do that is incompatible with your (our) beliefs.
Finally, you are right on the whole about Masons sharing a strong sense of values (which is what Masonry is about) but we do have our black sheep and internal politics.

Thanks for the full explanation Charles and best wishes on your move
Are you moving because of work? or University? There are so many questions !
Take your time and find out more locally wherever you end up !
I get a christmas card every year from a brother of Chinese origin, who lives in K L
You will have to be 21 years old to join so I hope you can use the wait to research whatever you want to have clarified
Otherwise come in with an open mind Thats probably more important

I am moving to UK to study at a medical university
I've heard of some lodges that accept individuals at the age of 18
I did check in the Internet and I've emailed some of the lodges secretaries and some of them said that if im 18 I may be considered
I don't know what to say ,I'm kinda excited ..when I heard that news.....

You could start here

http://www.universitiesscheme.com/web/index.html

The website gives you all the information you would need and there are people you could contact there for even more information I suspect.

Charles the best Uni for medical studies is EDINBURGH
where we have lodge St Davids no 36 now known as Lodge St Davids THE university lodge which will accept newbies under 21 ( which is the usual minimum age)
if you are 18 and at Uni
Its likewise easy to find just ask mr Google
Edinburgh St Davids University Lodge no 26

but Im biased as I am an honourary member there
