Greetings from a newly EA

Postby jd1985 » Wed Oct 22, 2014 6:59 pm

Hello all

I have recently been initiated into my local lodge and stumbled upon this forum whilst searching on the internet. Although I have only attended one meeting I have found everyone to be very friendly and I can't wait for my next meeting. I am keen to absorb and learn as much info as possible and if anyone could suggest some books to read etc that would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Hello JD

I'm not sure I'm necessarily qualified to welcome you to the forum as I've been here long myself.

Every EA should find himself a mentor or two in the Lodge these days. Your mentor will help you to understand the workings of the Lodge and will provide invaluable assistance when it comes to learning, understanding and delivering the ritual. You should get yourself a copy of the First Degree Emulation ritual book, which may at first sight seem impenetrable - but by attending your Lodge, Lodge of Instruction and spending time with your mentor you'll begin to get inside the ritual and prepare for your second degree.

Visting other Lodges is also a great part of freemasonry. I began visiting other Lodges with senior members of my own Lodge very soon after joining - it would be particularly good for you to see another First Degree ceremony soon as I doubt you took in much of your own - I didn't and neither do most EAs, it's pretty overwhelming.

Welcome from a fellow Newbie

By now, you may well have had your second meeting, but I strongly recommend that you attend an Initiation as an observer (as a visitor if need be) - it will make a bit more sense then!
