Greetings from Spain

Postby The Bullfigther » Wed Aug 06, 2014 8:47 am

Hello Brethren,

My name is Alberto Moreno Moreno, and I am Master Mason in Oliva - La Safor Lodge 112 in Gandía (Valencia), under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of Spain. I am also a Mark Master Mason and a Companion of the Royal Arch.

Some years ago I use to post in a Forum called something like "Forum Freemasonry Excoboard", and I recall that I could meet there some names that also appear in this forum, particularly Peter Taylor (Peter, maybe you remember me, I appeared under the name of "Mozard").

I was initiated in 2004, and I think that the moment that actually changed my masonic life was when I took over the Office of Assistant Provincial Secretary. To cut a long story short, the Province of Valencia has about 500 members (the Grand Lodge of Spain is still very small, around 4000 members). Out of this 500 members, 90 are Spanish, 40 are Dutch residents, and 370 are British residents in the area. This means that the Province of Valencia ir run entirely by British Brethren and in English language. Now, this English speaking Province has Spanish speaking Lodges under its jurisdiction, and it also has to communicate with the Grand Lodge of Spain, which naturally operates in Spanish. You can image how much paperwork generates Masonic administration, and they needed a translator. And that is what I have been doing for the last six years and I will probably keep on doing for some more.

I mean that this changed my Freemasonry because Spanish traditional FM follows the French pattern, doing the Craft Degrees in Rites such as Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite or French Rite, which are in general more philosophical and less spiritual. And suddenly I found myself with one foot in this continental Freemasonry, and the other foot in the Emulation Rite, Mark and the Royal Arch.

The end of the story is that I end up by leaving the AASR, and now I work in two Emulation Lodges (English speaking), as well as the Oliva - La Safor Chapter.

Thank you for granting me access to the forum.

Ha, ha, a friend of mine has an appartment there too. Maybe you should pop up at Oliva - La Safor Lodge, we meet in Gandía and we work in English language. It's just five miles from Playa de Xeraco.
