Greeting and welcome Brother and Companion John!

I know Dumfries quite well (including many of its hostelries!) and sometimes stay at the Ferintosh Guest House just opposite the Railway Station. (7)

Many thanks for your warm welcome to the forum. What a great vehicle it is for a little daily advancement. A wee bit easy to lose track of time though !

Bro Trefor. That is a coincidence that you stay at the ferintosh guest house when you are in Dumfries. The owners were both speakers at our last lodge burns supper. Apparently they named the guest house Ferintosh because it was Bro. Robert Burns favourite dram. His son, Robert Burns Jnr was master in my mother lodge in 1845. If you have any future trips to Dumfries, let me know and there could be a meeting that we could attend, there will certainly be hostelries that we can attend. Are your stays in Dumfries part of the biannual visitation from our Celtic cousins to gloat at the inadequacy of our national rugby team ?

Bro John,

No my visits do not coincide with anything sporting and having a foot in both camps I will happily sing both anthems and try to be neutral. (27)

Robertson and Emma are wonderful hosts and Robertson is something of an expert on the amber nectar. They organise pub crawls that usually start off with a meal at Cavens which is not too far, I believe, from the Masonic Hall (somewhere behind Buccleuch St I think).

Burns wrote about Ferintosh in the poem "Scotch Drink" when he wrote:

"O Ferintosh, so sadly lost, Scotland lament from coast to coast" (the owner closed it down after the government of the day reneged on a deal of taxation) and there is also a stone making reference to it on the Canongate side of the Parliament building in Edinburgh.

They used to host Burns Suppers on the premises but for some reason have held them in March the past couple of years and also moved them to Burns' Howff, the Globe Inn.

I will of course let you know once I know when my next trip will be.

And a warm welcome from me just up the road in Galloway. My rose Croix meets at George Street and I've visited St. Michael Kilwinning. I must arrange a trip to 53 in the not too distant future.

Would be great to see you Ninth Arch. As you probably know , we meet on 1st and 3rd Thursday, close tyle 7.15. You would be sure of a warm welcome ( and a hot pie and cold beer ). We don't have a meeting this week as we just had our installation on Sat. Details on all our meetings and events are on our website. http://Www.lodgekilwinning53.co.uk

Kind regards
