Newbie

Postby Savage » Thu Oct 24, 2013 8:13 am

Hi to all, I have joined this forum for answers to questions really. A few years ago I was lucky enough to be invited into an Essex UK lodge, I had my initiation then was going for my second when I was unfortunately made redundant !, hence I was asked to resign in debt !!, since then I have been registered disabled, from my disability I had to surrender my driving licence, therefore I am at home pretty much 24/7. I now "live" on £70 per week, I miss this brotherhood and am wondering if there is a way for me to rejoin ?, initially when I was made redundant no one from the lodge contacted me at all !, is there anything I can do ???

Thanks to you all, I'm just outside Colchester, to explain in more detail, obviously I was new to this and don't really understand the meaning of "resigning in debt", that would be the first comment, I was/am a member of the lodge at St.Botolphs, they have not been in contact since ?, I felt as if there was no "brotherhood" when I was made redundant initially as no one contacted me and as I've said haven't since ? I am open to joining another lodge if I can ?, I am happy to post my mobile number on here for anyone to contact me if I can ?, again thanks for your replies I really appreciate it, Mark.

Not a good idea to post numbers. Send info like that using the message system.

Being behind with fees is not such a big deal you just have to make some effort to settle the the amount.

Personally I think it is better to make amends with your current Lodge , then visit and get to know some other Lodges.

When I got into financial trouble the biggest problem i had was admitting I had a problem. Having been the giver and provider for 35 years I found it very hard to say , ' I need help'.

But your Lodge does not know anything unless you tell them. from their point of view it could be you jsut stopped attending. I am a little way away from you but if you want me to do anything send me a Personal messgae and I will call you. Better if there is someone close to you. The only advantage with me is Province are used to me pokong my nose into things, I can't get into any more trouble than I am already.

No I don't owe any money, when I was made redundant obviously things were going to become harder money wise so they suggested I resign in debt rather than leave altogether, since then all my other troubles have happened, I have tried to pm you, but it didn't seem to work, rather new to this ?

i thought the phrase 'resign in debt' meant there were dues owed. i have not heard that phrase before.

Welcome to the forum - have you maintained contact with your proposer & seconder? They would be able to assist in re-contacting the lodge.
How long has it been since you last paid your dues or visited the lodge?

Did you actually write a letter of resignation? If not, you didn't formally resign and you either a) owe the subs from the time you were paid up to the time the lodge voted to 'eject' you under Rule 181 for non-payment of subs (probably 1 year's subs), or b) you owe two years subs for a lapsed membership under Rule 148. Either way, all you have to do to restart your masonic journey -with any lodge- is to pay the outstanding figure to your original lodge who will then issue you with a clearance certificate and notify GL that your arrears have been cleared. You are then free to rejoin that lodge (easiest), or join another lodge. Note that the former is easier as you will not have received your GL certificate as you have yet to do your third degree.

Don't be concerned that you haven't been contacted by the lodge; they are under no obligation to contact former members; the almoner would normally only contact existing members or widows.
I'd recommend you contact the secretary of your mother lodge and express your desire to resume your membership; anyone from Essex should be able to find his details, or I can.

Oh - and welcome to the forum!
