Avoiding being rude!

Hello all!
I've contacted my local province to join and I received a very friendly email saying that my details had been passed onto someone in my area who will be in touch in due time, it's been almost three months now and I was just wondering what the time scale is, I don't want to be rude to the man by pestering him!

Thanks,
Donald

Hi Donald
Im sorry to hear that you are waiting for a reply to your request for contact, the only thing I can say is that a lot of lodges are only just coming to start the new masonic season and im sure that he will be contacting you soon. But saying that it would do no harm to send a gentle reminder showing your continues interest.

Let us all know how you get on.

Indeed, not much happens in Masonry in the summer months. I would wait another month or so and contact them again.

I would be very interested to know what happens here. I recently had a only slightly heated discussion with a Provincial Officer who explaining to me how new members were to be encouraged. I simply said that my Lodgeroom Guys probably do more to increase the new intake of members than most other groups. He was not impressed, he seemed to think I was saying we do the job better but you all know we always tell people to contact their local Province. There is no intention to replave Province or Grand Lodge but to support them.

Maybe I should not be so vocal but I get annoyed when we have many prompts to get new members and some just plain silly things happen. Like an application to join and the Province introduces the Guy to a Lodge with plenty of members miles from his home, when there is a Lodge within 15 minutes in real need of new blood.

Now, we have to remmeber like here, none of these Guys gets paid to do the work, with the exception of the Provincial and Grand Secretary. They are like here well meaning amatures and do not always get things right.

That's a very interesting point, I'm very appreciative of the fact that everyone volunteers their spare time and I have received a very prompt reply, thanking me for the reminder and explaining that most are away for the summer, thanks for all your comments, I'll be sure to stick around and update you all :)

My Provincial Secretary will be interested to hear that! - I know for a fact that he (and I!) work for nothing - because we love the Craft!

Donald you are not to know how long it would take to get a response. Three months is far too long and you should enquire as to what has occured. A lesser man would have given up.

Irrespective of the Summer Break a prospective candidate should be contacted by a Lodge.

Thanks for your words of encouragement, if all masons are a welcoming as you guys, I'm sure I'll be among good company!

I've got a question, I don't attend any church but I consider myself a christian, will that matter?

Donald its what you believe in that counts and what is in your heart. My advise is that when you are asked a question be truthful with your answer and from the heart. Then you will not go wrong.

Donald, when you are initiated please do me a favour and remember this phrase.

'' Where were you first made a Mason ''

Come back and tell me the answer you gave.

Donald Ive just been up north
( which doesnt mean Leeds or north emmerdale, )
specifically Glencoe and I wonder if you know its history?

If you do this will make sense if not ....time to google it

RE Difficult welcomes..... There is now a shiny new (ish) visitor centre just outside the village of Glencoe,
telling the story of the 1690 massacre of the local Macdonald clan by their *guests* a regiment of Campbells working for the English

and the first manager is a Campbell !!! what kind of welcome did the locals give him ? what did they think of the obvious insult to the raison d'etre of the new visitor centre..... or just the best man got the job?

Ready to welcome you in Scotland as a brother, or just as a visitor if you are here earlier

Yours aye

Thanks Eckywan, that's quite interesting and I hope the man is okay haha and thank you for the welcome, my family are originally from Scotland, up Glasgow area and moved down here for the steelworks, so I hope to revisit the roots at some point! If you can guess where they moved to in England you get a gold star haha
